Teaching Philosophy

Hello! My name is Anne Marie Beckemeyer. I finished my BFA in Studio Art from Kean University in 2025, and am currently studying for my MeD from University of Missouri-St. Louis. My goal is to become a high school art teacher and volleyball coach. I currently live in Highland, IL with my family, my dog, and my cat. 

As an aspiring art teacher, my number one goal is to provide a safe space for students to create and explore without fear of judgement. I strongly encourage my students to try different mediums and constantly evolve, because that exploration has kept my passion for the arts alive throughout my life. As a professional artist, mixing media in unexpected ways has been one of my most important practices. In addition to mixing media, teaching the fundamental skills of drawing are another focus of mine. While I encourage creativity, those explorations must be built on a strong foundation. The balance between these two principles are the core of my teaching philosophy. 

In my personal life, I have a strong passion for athletics as well. I played volleyball my whole life, and played in college as well. My current obsession is Muay Thai, which I practice several times a week. I love sharing my knowledge by coaching, and hope to continue in the future.
